Explorations

The RE committee has established a new life-long learning collaborative which has initiated Wednesday Evening Explorations (WEE!). Explorations joins the wide array of educational offerings at this UU society. While Wednesday will be a consistent venue for sharing and growing together, Programming for Explorations may be scheduled at other times as well. Also, at this time we are not scheduling events to compete with the Wednesday on which UUSDBA Board meetings are held. Events may include (but are not limited to) lectures, workshops, courses, discussion groups, and movie nights. They may be a single event or an on-going series. Programs are listed on the UUSDBA calendar and more detailed information is available at the following links:

The Unitarian Universalist Society, 56 N. Halifax Drive, Ormond Beach, presents as part of its “Explorations: Life Long Learning” series at 7:30 p.m.

September 22, “Everything You Wanted To Know About The Amendments But Were Afraid To Ask”.
The presentation will be by The League of Women Voters of Volusia County, a nonpartisan political organization. The presentation will be an overview of the Amendments to the Florida Constitution that will be voted on in the General Election, November 4th. The goal is to empower citizens to shape communities and to encourage the informed and active participation of Citizens in government. The meaning of voting for or against each amendment will be covered. In addition, the attendees will be informed regarding who sponsored the Amendment and given a short background of each. Two League members will be in charge of the presentation. Handouts will be provided, and there will be a question and answer period at the end of the presentation.

September 29, “Toward a Civil Discourse in Politics”, to be given by Evan Rivers, PhD.
The presentation will cover the deplorable status of political discussion in America today. Rather than a cooperative effort to solve problems, we often see negative competition for power, prestige and money. The role of existing political structures and the media will be covered. There will be a discussion period after the presentation.

While we initiate some events, the Life Long Learning collaborative will gladly assist members with new programming. Life Long Learning accepts proposals, and assists with registration, scheduling, and publicizing events within the society. If you would like to include the general public, we will put you in touch with the appropriate avenues. The functions of this collaboration can be molded to fit the requirements of each event.
