ARE YOU HUNGRY?
The people seeking food from Halifax Urban Ministries are!!!
The purpose of Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) is to respond to the needs of the hungry, homeless and low-income people in Florida's Volusia and Flagler counties.
Halifax Urban Ministries cares for people in need by providing emergency services with the objective of keeping them from becoming homeless.
Make a conscious decision every Sunday morning to take at least one item out of your pantry, bring it to UU and place it in the food basket. This is in the rear of the sanctuary .
Suggested items: Canned vegetables -fruit - juice, soup, pasta, pasta sauce, canned meats or tuna, canned beef stew, cereal, peanut butter, beans, granola bars, rice, macaroni and cheese. Complexed Carbs. and Hi Protein items are more nutritious than sweet foods.
Many of these people have infants and small children so consider foods for them. Baby food, applesauce, juice and dry milk. When shopping, consider the 'buy one get one free' items that would be applicable to this mission.
REMEMBER: HUNGER SHOULD NOT BE AN OPTION.

A SUCCESS STORY ON FAMILY RENEW COMMUNITY. (FRC)
Vist the Family Renew website.
Our UU is one of the nineteen faith based organizations that partially supports FRC.
This is transitional housing for parents with children. A 'hands up' program not a 'hand out'.
Due to unfortunate circumstances we have had a family in the UU cottage (unit 15) at the Holly Hill facility for two years. They have worked hard, followed the program, are debt free and saving their paychecks. They have been an inspiration to other residents who are less disciplined.
They have been accepted by Habitat for Humanity and they are going to get a home! Their 'sweat hours' are complete and ground breaking will be soon, right here in East Volusia County. This is great news for Lynn, Ric and their two daughters, Maddy (7) and Tricia. (11)
